Once you have purchased your new goldfish, there are a whole host of questions and areas to think about. One very popular thing to do is place certain decorations in your goldfish tank for the fish to swim around. Goldfish tank ornaments can include models of shipwrecks, models of cars and even ruined temples for them to swim through! As well as these sorts of models, you can also put stones and plants in for them to explore.
But why is this a good idea?
The main reason is that the goldfish will find the new items in the tank fascinating and it will keep them occupied and interested. In addition, it will also encourage them to swim around the tank and exercise fully as they will love finding out how the decorations work. They also love chasing each other around them if you have more than one in a tank – just like us, they love a good game of tag!
One important tip when filling your tank with these kind of things though is to make sure you don’t put too many in. The general rule is one quarter decorated to three quarters open water. By doing this, you will still give your fish plenty of space to actually swim in.
Another great tip for goldfish care is to re-arrange the ornaments each time you change the tank water. This gives the fish added stimulation and stops them getting bored with them being in the same place all the time. They will really enjoy the feeling of it being a whole new playground for them when you do this.
There are many great ways to look after and care for your goldfish and this is one of the best. Not only does it benefit your fish greatly but it also makes the goldfish tank look more colourful. When you are then interacting with them, it gives you added interest and something fun to look at. There are many great decorations you can pick up now so have a look around to find the ones you like best.
