Goldfish aren’t as playful as cats and dogs, you can’t pet them, or take them out for walks, but you can engage with them in other ways! Read our tips below to make the most of your scaly pet.
Feed from your hand
Yes that’s right, you can feed your fishy friend directly from your hand. Just hold your hand out with the food in your fingertips and the fish will take the food. You can even get the fish to carry out simple tricks using the food. Place the food in your fingertips at the end of a hoop and watch your friend swim through the hoop to get the food. In the same way you can train any other pets, your fish can be trained to do simple tricks in a reward technique as outlined above. Repeat this technique until the fish has got the hang of it. But remember not to overfeed your fish as this can be fatal.
Create a fun atmosphere
Goldfish are more interesting to watch if they have an enjoyable atmosphere to swim through, and they will also enjoy their habitat more. Invest in some decor for your fish tank such as large pebbles and a castle, or other structures to increase the excitement for the fish. They will enjoy meandering and exploring through their new environment and you’ll enjoy watching them weave their way in and out of their new setting.
Plants are great food treats for your fish and will provide a great variety to your pet’s diet, so get some natural plants from the pet store and delight in watching your friend munch on their treats. There are plenty of plant varieties to choose from including: Anubias barteri, Banana Plant, Duckweed and Java Fern amongst many more. Enjoy bonding with your pet fish by making their home special and watching them cherish it, feeding them with a variety of nourishing food, and even use food to train your pet.
